Heavy rain pushing through Houston area Wednesday

HOUSTON – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch until 3 p.m. Wednesday.

About 2-4 inches of rain expected through the afternoon.

Periods of heavy rain makes minor street flooding possible and driving hazardous at times.

The morning commute will be wet and sloppy. It is important to allow for extra travel time.

Numerous flood advisories and watches are in effect from northeast Texas to Michigan. In the Great Lakes, warm weather combined with rain and melting snow could cause serious flooding.

In the South, the greatest rainfall accumulation will be between Dallas and Little Rock, where up to 8 inches is possible.

Serious flooding is not likely in the greater Houston area. 

The rain will be focused along a cold front that will drift south toward the coast through Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, it will begin lifting north as a warm front, significantly reducing the area's chance for heavy rain by Thursday evening.
