Frigid air exits Houston, at least for now

HOUSTON – It was another freezing start to the day for Houston on Thursday, but that will be the last one for at least the next week.

Meteorologist Britta Merwin said clear skies and calm winds will make for a relatively comfortable afternoon with high temperatures near 60 degrees.

The warming trend continues through the weekend, with highs back in the 70s by Saturday. Lows will stay in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Rain returns to the forecast by late Sunday as a cold front tries to move through and interacts with a low-pressure system that is developing south of Texas and hangs out around the coast.

Merwin said models are going back and forth on the timing of the rain, but anyone who plans to travel next week should pay close attention to the forecast.

Thanksgiving looks to be a bit damp, with a 30 percent chance of rain with highs in the upper 60s.
