April showers bring May records!

Low temperature records shattered as May begins

HOUSTON - The National Weather Service just released a Public Information Statement detailing the amazing record lows the first six days of May. In a nutshell, nine record lows were set at official recording stations including all-time records for the month of May:  Houston dropped to an all-time May record low of 42, Galveston had an all-time low of 50, and College Station tied an all-time 42 degrees! No one is complaining, by the way.

The lows that were broken occurred in 1954 and 1978 which led me to wonder just what the hurricane seasons were like in those years. Well, both 1954 and 1978 had 12 Tropical cyclones and Texas WAS affected both times…. in both years, South Texas and the Beaumont area took strikes.

Weird coincidence, I'm sure, but interesting, if nothing else!
