Weekend Forecast:
High pressure continues to dominate much of our weather pattern going into the first fall weekend. It will be hot again Friday with sunny skies and light winds. Highs climb to the upper-90s, which would be a new record! We could be seeing multiple days of record setting heat through the weekend.
Tracking the tropics:
Lots to see in the tropics. We have category 4 Fiona and Tropical Storm Gaston. And there are three other tropical waves that could get names. The disturbance moving toward the Caribbean is the one we need to watch as it develops over the next few days.
The tropical disturbance in the Caribbean should become Hermine likely on Friday. Almost all weather models have this system moving into the Gulf of Mexico. Because it isn’t formed yet, long range models are not reliable. Early indications are it won’t move into southeast Texas but it could be close. The American model has once again shifted further east to be more in line with the European model. Both models are now favoring a possible landfall across either NW Florida or South Florida.
The American model has shifted east since yesterday. But also notice the difference in time. The American model favors an early weekend landfall near Pensacola. The European model is in Florida by Tuesday! Make sure you have our Hurricane Tracker App for updates on this system and others that form in the tropics.
10-day Forecast:
The official start of Fall is on Thursday at 8:03pm but it will feel like summer with temperatures climbing to the upper-90s Friday through most of the weekend. We’ll be challenging record highs through Saturday. Temperatures lower next week as a cold front moves through.
