Excessive Heat Warning issued for multiple counties

HOUSTON – An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Harris, Fort Bend, Wharton, Jackson, Galveston, Brazoria and Matagorda counties through 7 p.m. Thursday.

The warning is typically in effect when the Heat Index exceeds 113 degrees, so it's a step above a regular Heat Advisory.

The Southeast Texas area was already under a Heat Advisory through 7 p.m.

Rain chances will go up this weekend which will lower afternoon temperatures to the low 90s.
