CONROE, Texas - A 7-year-old boy was in stable condition Sunday after he was thrown 90 feet when a drunk driver crashed into the SUV he was riding in, according to police.
Conroe police said late Saturday on Interstate 45 near State Highway 105, a truck was heading southbound when the driver, Melton Lee Brown, lost control and clipped a SUV.
The driver of the SUV then lost control and it began flipping. The boy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was flung from the vehicle and landed on the exit ramp about 90 feet away.
The boy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands. He suffered a broken hip, elbow, collarbone and head injuries. He was later transferred to Texas Children's Hospital.
Two other people were inside the SUV at the time of the crash. Their injuries were not immediately released.
Police said Brown has two previous DWI convictions and is now charged with DWI and intoxication assault. He is in jail on more than $32,000 bond.
