VIDEO: Driver of stolen vehicle crashes into water barricade during chase

The driver of a stolen vehicle was hospitalized after crashing into a water barricade during a police chase Monday afternoon near the Texas Medical Center.

The chase began around 3:20 p.m. near Highway 288 and Reed Road after Houston police received reports of a person who stole a Lexus SUV from the parking lot of a Home Depot.

Police said a dealership employee was attempting to pressure-wash the Lexus when a suspect stole the vehicle.

"He went to pick up the pressure washer and when he tried to put the washer in the car, he took off," said Yasser Elbramawy, the owner of the vehicle.

The chase ended on the South Freeway and Southmore Boulevard after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the water barricade, police said.
