Ehlinger leads No. 14 Texas romp over UTEP 59-3
14 Texas rolled to a 59-3 season-opening win over UTEP Saturday night. Ehlingerโs final touchdown pass came on a 6-yard toss to walk-on Kai Money in the final seconds of the first half. Texas' original schedule had the Longhorns visiting defending national champion LSU this weekend, in a rematch of a 2019 classic. Some Texas athletes had demanded the school drop the song because of its history involving minstrel shows and actors in blackface decades ago. But they were overpowered at the line of scrimmage and overwhelmed by Texas' speed while Longhorns receivers zipped through and around the UTEP secondary.
RECRUITING: Houston Heights' Alvarez verbals to UTEP
HOUSTON - The heartbeat of the Houston Heights women's hoops team is heading to UTEP. "The relationship I have built with the coaches & team over the past several months really made UTEP feel like home," Heights point guard Gracelynn Alvarez, who verbally committed to the Miners on Sunday, said. Alvarez was a key part to Heights posting an impressive 26-9 overall record and going 11-1 in district play last season. In fact, the Alvarez family built their own basketball court from the ground up in their backyard. "I've been playing ball since I was four-years-old and I can honestly say this is my passion," Alvarez said.
RECRUITING: UTEP lands 2021 QB Jakolby Longino from Hightower
Fort Bend Hightower signal-caller Jakolby Longino verbally committed to UTEP earlier this week, which gave the Miners their first verbal commit of the Class of 2021. "Coach Canales is a great coach and he has coached multiple NFL QB's," Longino said. Longino had three offers - Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and UTEP - when he decided to commit. At the end of the day, the UTEP coaches were up front and honest, which went a long way with Longino. Looking at UTEP's 2020 signing class, the Miners didn't sign a quarterback during that session and Longino is the first 2021 prospect to verbal.
