HOUSTON โ€“ HISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Granita Lathan will remain in the interim role. This after the board of trustees voted, 6-3, Thursday to not make her a sole finalist for the job. Earlier in the day the Houston NAACP preemptively sent out a statement also in support of Lathan being named the sole finalist. Vice President Dr. James Dixon cited what he called Lathanโ€™s ability to work with others and provide stability. HOUSTON โ€“ Galveston Independent School District will offer access to rapid COVID-19 tests to symptomatic students and staff. The tests will allow them to test students and staff members at schools with Teen Health Center facilities. There are five Teen Health Center Facilities within Galveston ISD. Brown said the rapid COVID-19 tests are 98% accurate and are available within 15 minutes of taking the test. Rudolph said about 20 rapid COVID-19 tests were performed Thursday.

Galveston ISDIn the era of COVID-19, fans coming to see the first Ball High School football game on Sept. 25 will notice some big changes. GALVESTON, Texas โ€“ A former school teacher in Galveston County is behind bars for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student. According to Galveston ISD, school officials received a complaint about a district employee and a student on Aug. 28. Galveston ISD said they placed the employee on "administrative leave" on that date and later turned the case over to police because of its "serious nature." Durand was charged with one count of indecency with a child by contact, indecency with a child by exposure and improper relationship between educator and student. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches also named a Larry Durand "Coach of the Year" for the 2014-2015 year.
