University of Houston baseball team aims high entering season

HOUSTON – Baseball season has arrived at the University of Houston, where the Cougars are set to make a run at the College World Series in Omaha.

Head coach Todd Whitting’s club is the defending American Conference champion, both in the regular season and at the conference tournament.

This year, the Cougars begin in the preseason top 25 in three national polls.

UH returns top pitcher and All-American Trey Cumbie, who was 10-2 last season, along with preseason All American designated hitter and first baseman Joe Davis.

Whitting returns for his eighth season and spoke Tuesday at Schroeder Park before the Cougars' first practice.
