Haywood was hired in December 2015, and the Tigers went 2-9 over each of the last two seasons after Haywood compiled a 4-9 record in his first season at Texas Southern. Overall, the team compiled a record of 8-25, including a 7-16 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

A national search to fill the vacant head coaching position will begin immediately.
