Houston was forced to play a significant part of the game with 10 men after Jalil Anibaba was issued a red card in the 28th minute.

Gustav Svensson opened the scoring with an 11th minute header, giving the Sounders a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after Anibaba's red card, Seattle doubled its lead with a 42nd minute goal from Will Bruin, the former Dynamo forward.
