Rockets top Thunder for 50th win of season

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – It is a Sweet 16 for the Houston Rockets who continued their winning ways in Oklahoma City on Thursday night with a 122-112 win over the Thunder.

The victory by Houston sends the Rockets to 50-13 on the season.

The Rockets had turnover issues throughout the night, giving it away 22 times, but they managed offensively by building a 54-45 halftime lead.

The Thunder are one of the best home teams in the NBA and showed why as they chipped away in the third quarter and cut the Rockets lead to only 5 before Houston promptly answered with a 15-1 run that put them in good shape the rest of the way.

The flurry came thanks to the hot shooting from Chris Paul who drained two big 3-pointers en route to his 25-point night that led the Rockets.

James Harden struggled in the first half but still managed to pour in 23 toward the Rockets win.

Harden also added 5 rebounds and 11 assists in 36 minutes.

The Rockets, as they have done throughout the winning streak, spread it around offensively as seven players finished in double figures.

Trevor Ariza added 15 while Eric Gordon finished with 14.

On the night the Rockets dropped 17 3-pointers.

The Thunder were led by Russell Westbrook’s 32 points while Carmelo Anthony finished with 23.

Next for the Rockets is a date against the Bucks in Milwaukee on Wednesday night followed by a huge game at the Eastern Conference’s top seed Toronto on Friday.

The Rockets will close out their four-game road trip in Dallas against the Mavericks on Sunday.
