HOUSTON – George Springer Drive has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? A man in the Houston Astros outfielder’s hometown sure thinks so.

Dan Russel, of New Britain, Connecticut, started a petition on Change.org to rename Paul Manafort Drive to George Springer Drive. The road runs along the edge of the Central Connecticut State Unviersity campus.

“The street currently bears the same name as his son, Paul J. Manafort, a New Britain, Connecticut, native who was recently indicted on twelve federal criminal charges, including conspiracy against the United States,” Russel wrote in his petition. “This street next to New Britain's featured university should honor a better name.”

More than 650 people have signed the petition.

The petition was also featured on an Astros fan site called crawfishboxes.com.

Springer, who is also a New Britain native, was named the most valuable player of the World Series.

The slugger’s five home runs, which were nicknamed “Springer dingers,” helped lift the Astros to their first Major League Baseball championship.
