LONDON – Day Three:
I pull open the curtain to grey skies and drizzle. Rubbish! The weather gal on the BBC says it will steadily improve throughout the day. Good thing, because the walk from the NBC work area to our actual broadcast site is an Olympic event in and of itself.

But first, there are stories to be told. We hook up with the family of Olympic diver Christina Loukas, who trains in the Woodlands. Seven members are here to cheer her on. By the end of the interview, Mom and I are comparing Fascinators to be worn for the opening ceremony.
As my crew and I fetch a cab, a tall gentleman asks what we're shooting. I immediately grab my cellphone and say, "The two of us!" It's Mike Woodson, head coach of the New York Knicks. I bite my tongue on the whole Jeremy Lin thing and carry on.
Today turns out to be part two of celebrity watch. We run into Al Michaels, the voice of God for the NFL, and then while getting footage of Olympic park, we dead-end into the Today show set and are asked to fill up the space in the background. So there I am, sandwiched between my two new BFF's, Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie, during an interview segment. We chat briefly afterward, and I'm convinced the Today show has a no-jerk policy when it comes to hiring.
Oh, and then there's Olympic boxing hopeful and Houstonian Marlen Esparza. I have enough Facebook material to last a month! But, who knows, all of this might pale in comparison after watching the opening ceremony, a jubilee of athletic triumph meeting world competitive showmanship.
Beijing may have set the benchmark, but the Brits have heart, and from what I can tell, they're wearing it on their Ralph Lauren sleeve.
