The Denver Broncos are dipping into free agency to find a new quarterback in former Vikings signal-caller Case Keenum, ESPN reported early Tuesday.

The deal, combined with the two-year deal agreed to by Drew Brees to return to the Saints, likely leaves the Vikings, Cardinals and Jets as the three teams vying for former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The NFL's free agency period officially opens on Wednesday.

Keenum, 30, compiled an 11-3 record after replacing an injured Sam Bradford and helped Minnesota to the NFC Championship game last season.

He passed for 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns, both easily career highs, for the Vikings while the Broncos struggled to a 5-11 record behind a trio of struggling quarterbacks in Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch.

The Broncos have missed the playoffs the past two seasons after winning Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
