Ex-Aggies QB Kyle Allen to transfer to University of Houston

HOUSTON – Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen is transferring to the University of Houston.

U of H confirmed Tuesday that Allen will transfer to the Coogs and sit out the 2016 season. The Coogs' Greg Ward Jr. will play out his senior season in 2016.

Allen will have two years of eligibility left starting in 2017, according to the university.

The Aggies granted Allen's release in December.

Allen was a 5-sStar recruit out of Arizona and was heavily recruited by UH Head Coach Tom Herman who was then the Offensive Coordinator at Ohio State. Allen will join a UH program that just completed a 13-1 season and a Peach Bowl victory over Florida State.

The sophomore appeared in 10 games for the Aggies this season and threw for 2,210 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Allen won the starting job out of camp but was benched in favor of freshman Kyler Murray after throwing three interceptions, all of which were returned for touchdowns, in a loss to Alabama in October. Murray also left the Aggies program last month and will transfer to the University of Oklahoma.

Allen received only sporadic playing time after he was benched. He played in 10 games as a freshman last season after Kenny Hill was benched after his struggles.

Overall, Allen went 9-5 in 14 career starts.
