Carlos Correa makes fan's wish come true, greets hundreds of others

HOUSTON – Hundreds of people got the chance to meet and take pictures with Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa at Macy's inside the Galleria Friday night.

Some 200 fans waited in line starting Thursday night to get a wristband to meet the Astros champion and take a picture with him. In order to meet him they also had to buy at least $35 worth of clothes, or caps from Lock Room by LIDS Shop in Macy's.

"Me and my boyfriend actually camped out since last night we were here like 8:30 or 9 o'clock at night and we camped out," Erika Guajardo, who also brought her younger brother, said. "We waited until the door opened in the morning, till the door opened at 9:15 a.m. and we were literally the first one to get the wrist band. We had to miss the parade unfortunately, so we could be first."

But the first person who got to meet Correa was 9-year-old Cameron Gooch.

Gooch, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, had his wish granted through Make-A-Wish to be an Astros baseball player in August.

Fast forward three months and a World Series championship later and the wishes continue. Gooch got to attend several games in the World Series, marched in the parade and got to write his Christmas list to Santa Claus alongside Correa.

"I can't really explain it, pretty cool," Gooch said about his experience Friday.

He and Correa were the first to drop their letters to Santa, which is part of Macy's and Make-A-Wish 10th Anniversary of its "Believe" campaign.
