Battle begins at WR after Texans lose Will Fuller to injury

Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien was business as usual after practice on Thursday when he was asked about the loss of Wide Receiver Will Fuller.

“Anytime you lose a starter in the NFL it’s not great,” O’Brien said Thursday afternoon. “But at the same time injuries happen.”

For the Texans that starter is 2nd year receiver Will Fuller who broke his collarbone in Wednesday’s practice.  Fuller faces surgery and will be out a minimum of 2 to 3 months.

“It’s not a season ending injury which is good,” said O’Brien. “He’ll be back in Houston rehabbing and be back with us on the field as soon as he can. The next guy has to step up, multiple guys really. We have a lot of guys in that room that are talented."

The next up mentality at training camp means golden opportunities are coming for players like Jaelen Strong and Braxton Miller. Both have been in the system and are ready to show they can produce for this offense.

“I’m just going to keep playing my role,” said Miller after practice Thursday. “Wherever Coach puts me I’m going to do my best and come out here in training camp and showcase what I can do and whatever comes, comes.”

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Strong. “I’m just trying to contribute to our teams success. Gotta keep doing what I’m doing and stay in the playbook and study,” Strong said.

For Miller, he knows what Fuller is going through because he’s been there himself.

“ I saw it. I was on the field. I’ve been through the same situation when I was in college. I messed up my shoulder so it’s one of those things that happens with football.  I’m here for him. He texted me this morning. I texted him back. That was my roommate so I’m there for him,” Miller said.
