History has been made, as the Boston Red Sox announced the hiring of Bianca Smith.
Smith becomes the first Black female coach in professional baseball.
She spoke with MLB Network saying, “The opportunity is amazing, I’m still wrapping my head around it. I probably won’t really have it sink in until I’m actually there.”
Smith, 29, has worked as an assistant coach at Carrol University and also served as an assistant coach at the University of Dallas. She was the director of baseball operations at Case Western University and served as an intern in the front office for the Texas Rangers and the Reds.
Her primary duties are expected to be coaching position players at the Red Sox training facility.
