It was a slaughter

The NF-Hell season of 1989 did not include the Oilers in the Super Bowl.

The Oilers of Jerry Glanville finished the regular season 9-7 (SOUND FAMILIAR). They then lost a wild card game 26-23 to the Steelers. However, it was Denver representing the AFC in the BIG GAME in New Orleans. The other guys were the Forty Niners. Unlike this past season, the Niners were really good. Their special teams captain was Spencer Tillman. He was also working for us at Ch. 2. We had the inside scoop on how teams prepared, what they did in the week leading to the game, and as it turned out,  a few free tickets. (That doesn't sound familiar).

Spencer took one of our wireless mics (I THINK IT WAS THE ONE THAT WORKED) and put it on Joe Montana. We had some great stuff from the limited time we were able to tape practice. In fact it was so good NFL Films called our boss and told him they had paid many dollars to have exclusive stuff and it was not fair to have some local yokels getting better stuff. I think a lawyer told us to knock it off. Too late, we aired the good stuff. Spencer got Roger Craig and Larry Roberts to stand together. We shot pics of the two players with my name on their backs. IT STILL adorns my Facebook page.

Once the game started I TOOK my spot in the stands. If the game had been played on the ceiling I WOULD HAVE been in the 3rd row. The Niners slaughtered Denver and Spencer played the game with the flu. I drove home after the game because I was having shoulder surgery the next day. Other than that, we had a swell time. That's the Thursday Throwback report.
