HOUSTON – The University of Houston Cougars will play San Diego State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Houston finished 9-3 on the season, while the Aztecs went 10-3 playing in the Mountain West Conference.

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2:30 p.m. in Vegas.
Interim head coach Todd Orlando will handle coaching duties after Tom Herman left to take the job at the University of Texas.

The Cougars will fill the Pac-12 Conference spot this year and are the first member of the American Athletic Conference to appear in the Las Vegas Bowl.
It will also mark the first year that the game will feature a team from the state of Texas.
Houston last played in Las Vegas when the Cougars beat UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium in 1989.
San Diego State previously appeared in the Las Vegas Bowl in 1998, losing 20-13 to North Carolina.
The Aztecs are 0-2 against Houston, but the two schools haven't faced each other since 1973.
