Houston-Rice to play football series in 2017-18

UH leads the Bayou Bucket series, 29-11, including wins in the last three meetings

HOUSTON – The Owls and Coogs may not play in the same football conference any more, but the teams will meet again on the gridiron in coming seasons.

The University of Houston and Rice University announced a two-game football series for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The games, known as the Bayou Bucket competition, will kick off on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at TDECU Stadium and Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Rice Stadium.

The Cougars own a 29-11 advantage over the Owls, with wins in each of the last three meetings, the last coming in 2013.
