Houston Dynamo's Brad Davis makes US World Cup team

Brad Davis named to final USA World Cup team

HOUSTON – The wait is finally over for those following Team USA's final roster cuts.

Veteran Landon Donovan surprisingly was left out and won't take part in his fourth World Cup.

While Donovan was left off,  good news for Houston Dynamo star Midfielder Brad Davis who made the final squad and will be competing in his first World Cup.

"Tons of emotions for me. This is a lifelong dream and a mission for me," Davis said in an interview Thursday with KPRC Local 2 Sports.

"Finding out today that that dream came true for me, family and friends and the organization.  Kind of starting to hit home. It's been an emotional few hours and unbelievably excited right now.

"I don't think it has sunk in yet.  I'm sure it will hit us tomorrow when we are down now to the final 23," said Davis.

"We know who is going and who is on the team.   It's time to get to work.  We have a ton of work still to do.

"There's a lot of people behind the scenes that have made me who I am today.  My family, friends, coaches from the past and my Dynamo teammates and fans that have supported me.  Lot of people on the sleeve of that jersey going to Brazil for sure," Davis said.

News spread quickly inside the Dynamo organization Thursday afternoon when Davis was named to the USA squad.

"We are thrilled for Brad. We know how hard he has worked," Dynamo President Chris Canetti told KPRC Local 2 Sports.

"We are very happy personally and as an organization we know he will represent the Dynamo well this summer. Wish him the best," said Canetti.

"We now have an excellent player missing games and as a club we are challenged but there is a lot of value having World Cup players on your team."

Davis will stay with Team USA through the World Cup tournament in Brazil before returning to the Dynamo.
