Woman pinned beneath car in hit-and-run

HOUSTON - A woman was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after she was pinned beneath a car during a hit-and-run crash on a southeast Houston freeway.

Investigators said a woman driving north on Interstate 45 hit the left guardrail at 11 p.m. Wednesday at Dixie Farm Road.

Two good Samaritans pulled over and tried to help and direct traffic. Moments later, the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder slammed into the back of one of the cars and landed on top of the woman's car, pinning her underneath it, police said.

It took emergency crews 90 minutes to rescue the woman. She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Pathfinder fled the scene, officials said. He will face charges of failure to stop and render aid if caught.

One of the good Samaritans suffered lacerations to his head. He is expected to be OK.

The woman's name was not released.
