HOUSTON – Authorities are investigating a scene in north Harris County after a man found the body of a young woman in a vacant apartment who had been dead for multiple days, police said.
According to police, they were dispatched to the Palms at Cypress Station apartment complex on an unrelated call around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday when they were flagged down by a man.
He had initially told police that he’d come to the apartments to visit a friend. However, that man later told KPRC2 reporter Cathy Hernandez that he lives next door to the apartment.
The man said he entered the two-story apartment and found the deceased woman half naked and on a mattress with a clear and pink backpack nearby.
According to police, the woman is believed to be in her early to mid-20s and foul play is suspected.
"We’re still talking to people who may have seen anything that happened," homicide investigator Jamaal Roberts said. "Including him going to the apartment."
The apartment appeared to be vacant, but residents have seen people going in and out.
Residents also told KPRC2 there is a lot of crime in the area and it is time for a change.
"It’s devastating," Jana Brimsey said. "I live around the corner. I live over here, so it’s devastating and it’s so sad. That girl was young."
Another woman who lives at the complex believes the victim is her daughter, telling Hernandez that her daughter left on Friday and had not come home.
Police believe the young woman has been dead for at least two days.
Homicide detectives are still on the scene and are hoping to learn more information behind the circumstances of her death.
