Woman beaten, sexually assaulted in home

HOUSTON - A 62-year-old woman was attacked at her front door, beaten and sexually assaulted, police said.

Houston police said the attack, which lasted about an hour, happened in the 1500 block of Dewalt near Willow about 8 a.m. on Friday.

The woman had just opened her front door to go to work when she was hit in the face and knocked back into her living room, detectives said. She was punched repeatedly and even choked with an electrical cord, police said.

The woman was threatened with a knife and a gun before she was sexually assaulted, investigators said. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

"That somebody would come inside somebody's house and try to take anything from them makes me mad," said the victim's son-in-law. "I'm trying to be careful with my words -- really makes me mad."

Neighbors said the woman is a long-time resident of the area. She grew up in the house where the attack occurred.

"Really a good lady … a shame some would do this to her," Officer Orus Baldwin said. "We want to catch this guy before he does end up killing somebody. She was very lucky today."

The man was described as black with a dark complexion, 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 240 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
