Woman accused of stealing cell phone, biting pregnant woman

Karen Izaguirre, 23, charged with robbery

SAN ANTONIO – Karen Izaguirre, 23, has been arrested on a charge of injury to a child after she allegedly punched and bit a pregnant woman while stealing her cell phone.

The victim flagged down a San Antonio police officer June 26 and reported that she had been sitting near a bus stop in the 4300 block of S. Presa when another woman approached and grabbed her cell phone from her hand.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the victim said the woman, at first had asked to use her phone, but because she had a feeling she would steal it, she refused.

Soon after that, she said the woman grabbed her phone then tried to grab her purse but she put up a struggle. During the fight, the victim said, the woman punched her in the face and bit her hand.

The victim, who is pregnant, said she then allowed the rob to run away with her phone because she didn't want to risk harming her baby by chasing her.

The affidavit said that after the woman ran off with the cell phone, the victim flagged down a police officer for help. He said based on the victim's description of the thief he realized that Izaguirre was the suspect.

The victim also was able to identify Izaguirre in a photo lineup, the affidavit said.

Izaguirre was arrested Sunday on a charge of robbery.
