HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Authorities have released video of a deadly officer-involved shooting of a teenager who led deputies on a chase, and then opened fire on officers on Halloween.
Jose Luis Centeno Jr., 17, drove past a school bus that was stopped to unload students in the 7600 block of Spring Cypress Road, according to deputies.
Centeno led deputies on a chase for about 10 minutes. When he tried to do a U-turn in the 14800 block of Stuebner Airline Road, he drove into a ditch.
Dashcam video from two patrol cars shows deputies walking up to Centeno's vehicle while shouting commands to show his hands. Centeno is seen raising a handgun and firing at deputies. Deputies return fire and hit Centeno, killing him.
Centeno's weapon was determined to be a replica air gun.
Uncovering his oldest son's car is a painful memory for Jose Centeno Sr. The vehicle is marked with bullet holes and it's where his son, Jose Centeno Jr. took his final breaths.
"It's so hard. It changed my life, everything," Jose Centeno Sr. said. "It's hard when I see the five police shooting him. It's a lot."
He said he didn't know his son owned the air gun or why his son took off, but he misses him and still wants answers.
"He was excited all of the time and thinking about a lot of things for the future," his father said. "I have a lot of questions not answered yet. I want to know what happened and why they did that."
The teen's funeral was held Nov. 6.
The shooting is still under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs.
