VIDEO: Driver shot, carjacked during robbery in Mission Bend

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A driver was robbed and shot Monday in Fort Bend County, according to a tweet from the sheriff's office.

Authorities said the driver was responding to a call around 6:50 p.m. when he was shot in the back and his black 2014 Dodge Dart was stolen in the 7800 block of Soledad Drive in Mission Bend.

The driver was conscious and breathing when he was taken to the hospital, authorities said.

According to deputies, three men are responsible for the robbery and shooting and they may still be driving the vehicle.

Neighbors said they didn't hear gunshots. They saw the driver being placed on a stretcher.

Authorities originally said that the victim was driving for Uber at the time of the shooting. However, authorities later said that the driver is registered as an Uber driver but has never worked as one, so the incident has no connection to Uber.

Investigators said they do not believe the trio knew the driver worked for Uber.

Prior to authorities updating their information regarding an Uber connection, the ride-sharing company released the following statement:

"We are working to gather information. We appreciate the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office for their quick response and stand ready to provide any information that would be useful for their investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
