U.S. Rep. Al Green pushing for Trump's impeachment

HOUSTON – While President Trump takes part in the G-20 summit in Germany, the call for his impeachment, while not gathering steam, continues here at home.

Congressman Al Green, D-Houston, District 9, is a guest on this week's "Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall" and says Trump's actions warrant impeachment proceedings.

"When the president fired the FBI director, who was investigating his campaign for Russia's connection and their intrusion into our democracy, and then went on to give a tweet that may have been a form of intimidation,” he said. “It became pretty clear to me that this was an impeachable act."

There is no support in this Republican Congress for impeachment but Green says the reaction would be different under the same circumstances if President Obama was in office.

"I think we would have impeachment and you wouldn't have to have a single Democrat to vote for it," he said.

Republican Congressman Kevin Brady, R-Houston, District 8, is the chair of House Ways and Means Committee and plays a key role in helping implement the Trump agenda. He said any talk of impeachment is part of a disturbing trend.

"From almost the moment Donald Trump was elected,” he said. “There was this anger toward him in a goal to delegitimize his presidency and it began before he was even sworn into office. I see the impeachment approach as more of that."

Congressmen Green and Brady will also talk about health care, foreign policy and much more.

Marty Lancton, the president of Houston Fire Department Local 341 talks about why his firefighters desperately need a raise and are suing the city to get it.
