KXAN: United pilot removed from flight after 'rant' over intercom

HOUSTON – A United Airlines pilot was take off a flight from Austin to San Francisco Saturday after going on a rant over the intercom to passengers, KXAN confirmed.

The flight was scheduled to depart Austin’s Bergstrom airport around 5 p.m. when the pilot was removed, according to KXAN.

In a statement, United Airlines told KXAN:

“We hold our employees to the highest standards and replaced this pilot with a new one to operate the flight, which we expect will depart shortly. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

A witness on the flight told KXAN the pilot was not in uniform when he started to rant to the passengers over the plane’s intercom.

According to KXAN, the flight was delayed for two hours.
