Undercover officer wounded, informant killed in shooting

Second officer involved in bus accident responding to scene

HOUSTON - An undercover sheriff's deputy was wounded and a confidential informant was killed in a shooting in northwest Harris County Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened at 1:30 p.m. in the 13400 block of Hollister near Blue Creek Ranch Drive.

Investigators said a confidential informant was inside an 18-wheeler that was loaded with marijuana. Undercover officers with several agencies were following the truck.

Several vehicles ambushed the 18-wheeler and shot the informant, detectives said.

The undercover officers jumped out of their vehicles and opened fire, officials said.

One deputy was shot in the leg and taken to Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. He underwent surgery Monday afternoon. His name was not released.

Investigators said they were working to determine if the deputy was shot by the suspects or another officer.

Detectives said they took four suspects into custody.

A deputy responding to the shooting was involved in a school bus accident at Antoine and West Road at 2 p.m.

Investigators said the bus was on Antoine approaching West Road when the patrol car and bus collided. The bus also hit a third vehicle in an effort to miss the police car, officials said.

The deputy, bus driver and third driver were injured. The deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he is in good condition.

No students were on the bus, officials said, because school is out for Thanksgiving break.
