Uncle in custody, nephew in hospital after hit-and-run

HARRIS COUNTY - Deputies said man they believe hit his 8-year-old nephew with his pickup truck is now in police custody.

The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Skylight near Super Sky northwest Harris County.

Investigators on the scene told Local 2 the boy's 32 year-old uncle, Randy Jenkins Jr., was driving his white pickup truck erratically Wednesday night. At one point, when two children were playing on the sidewalk, he jumped the curb and ran over his 8-year-old nephew.

Deputies said the boy was unconscious when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by Life Flight, and at last check was listed in critical condition.

Officials said after the crash Jenkins told neighbors to call 911, but then drove away.

Authorities spent the night looking for Jenkins who they believed was heading =to hide out in Columbus.

Jenkins was taken into custody Thursday morning and transported to the Harris County Jail.

Jenkins faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
