Authorities say Brian Lackey, 45, passed away Thursday from his injuries

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Authorities say a motorcyclist that was hit and killed by an intoxicated driver Wednesday afternoon has died.

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, troopers said the driver of a Chevy Impala, 23-year-old Rodrigo Gallegos, crashed into 45-year-old Brian Lackey, who was riding a Honda motorcycle at Kropik Road at SH 242.

Troopers said they discovered beer cans and realized Gallegos was intoxicated.

Lackey suffered a brain injury and was airlifted to Memorial Herman. Thursday afternoon, troopers said Lackey passed away from his injuries.

Gallegos' wife was in the passenger seat of the Impala. Troopers said riding in the back of the vehicle were his two kids, an infant and a 1-year-old who both were in car seats.

Authorities said Gallegos' family suffered minor injuries.

For 13 years, Lackey was a part of the San Jacinto High Rollers motorcycle group.

Allen McCanliss, the national president of the group, said Lackey will be missed. He hopes this is a wake-up call for the suspect and other drunk drivers out there.

"It was a serious wake-up call. I know it's going to affect his future, his wife and his youngins will have to live with this the rest of his life," said McCanliss. "I don't wish this on anybody who's involved in any kind of killing of any sort."

Gallegos is in Montgomery County Jail. He faces an intoxication manslaughter charge and two counts of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15-years of age.
