Officials said the teacher and student began their relationship in March by exchanging texts and calls.

As time passed, the student said she began to "trust" her teacher and this is when she started accepting rides from Nguyen, deputies said.

According to authorities, the student said the two would use Snapchat to communicate and the relationship turned sexual in April.

The 17-year-old alerted authorities about their relationship May 28 and Nguyen resigned from his position Tuesday.

Nguyen is charged with a second-degree felony.
