Traffic stalled on East Freeway after 6-car pileup

HOUSTON - Police are trying to track down the driver who caused a deadly six-car pileup on the East Freeway.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday witnesses spotted a pickup truck speeding eastbound on the left shoulder.

According to police, the pickup truck then collided with a motorcycle, causing a chain-reaction crash.

There were two pickup trucks, three cars and one motorcycle rider involved in the six vehicle accident.  

The motorcycle rider was flown to Hermann Memorial Hospital where he later died. 

Two elderly people were also taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses tell police the two men in the pickup that caused the crash fled on foot.

Crews shut the entire freeway down for hours.

As of 10:00 a.m. Saturday, traffic remains stalled.
