Three vehicle accident leaves one dead on southwest freeway

Pedestrian killed on southwest freeway

HOUSTON – A fatal accident had the southwest freeway shut down for several hours. The accident happened at 1 a.m. Saturday on the southwest freeway near Weslayan. 

Police say a Mercedes-Benz was disabled in a moving lane of traffic when the driver of a Toyota Corolla did not see the disabled vehicle and struck the back of the Mercedes, causing a minor accident.

The driver of the Mercedes got out of the car and was standing on the freeway next to the Toyota Corolla.  The driver of a red Fiat did not see the disabled vehicles and struck the back of the Toyota Corolla.

After hitting the Toyota Corolla, the driver of the Fiat struck the pedestrian. The driver also caused the Corolla to strike the Mercedes again. 

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital and later died. No other injuries were involved in the accident. 

According to police, the driver of the Fiat showed signs of impairment and could be charged with DWI.

The southwest freeway has since reopened.
