Thousands of Houstonians fed at Thanksgiving Super Feast

HOUSTON – Thousands of pounds of turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings will be served today for the 36th annual Super Feast.

Thanksgiving is a day all about food and for some of us it's a challenge not to overeat. But there are thousands of Houstonians who wish they had that problem.

"My last meal was two days ago and I was hungry so I came in to get something to eat," says Venssa Meyer.

Vanessa Meyer is homeless and says if it wasn't for the hot meal, she may not have had a meal at all this holiday.

"It is beautiful.  They are giving everything, lots of food, lots of people, a lot of fellowship, we are having a good time," says Meyer.

The George R. Brown convention center transformed into a huge dining hall Thursday to serve thousands of people who are homeless or just need some help this holiday season. Volunteers say they are hoping to serve over 20,000 men, women and children.

"This is a way for giving back for my daughters to see us here to know mommy and daddy are here giving back to other people, to pass that tradition on to helping others," says Wade Smith, former Houston Texans player.

In addition to serving the traditional holiday meal, super feast volunteers handed out medical information and clothing.
