Thieves target vehicles outside Baytown businesses

Headline Goes Here

BAYTOWN, Texas - Police are searching for the thieves who broke into several cars in the Baytown area.

Investigators said the thieves targeted unsuspecting drivers over the course of a few hours on January 17th.  They got away with thousands of dollars worth of valuables.

"It just disgusts me that people are doing this," said one victim.  "I would have never thought that it would happen to me because I was parked right next to an IHOP where people could see my truck."

The victim, who did not want to be identified, said he was eating at the restaurant along Garth Road when he came out to find his truck window shattered.

"My backpack was gone.  My laptop was in there, calculator was in there," he said.  "It was like over $1,300 worth of electronics just in my backpack."

Police said that evening, officers responded to at least five car break-ins in the same area.

Baytown resident Tonya Reed said she's not surprised.  She was also a victim of a break-in recently at a nearby shopping center.

"I had a lot of friends that had stuff stolen," Reed said.
