HOUSTON – Houston police are trying to help a foster family find a dog that was stolen from a pet adoption event in Kingwood.
"Please bring her back home," says Jessica Armstrong, fighting back tears. "She is a very deserving dog."
"She" is Brindle, a 2 1/2-year-old pit bull, missing after a young woman stole the dog.
Melinda Hughes helped organize the function held Saturday afternoon at a strip mall on Kingwood Drive. Hughes says the woman, around 18 or 19 years old asked to walk Brindle to see if she and the dog were compatible. After a few minutes she says the girl ran with the dog to her car, jumped in, and drove away.
"We all chased, ran everywhere, across the street," says Hughes. "But we couldn't catch her."
Brindle was fostered by Armstrong's family for two years after Armstrong took in the dog as a rescue. She says Brindle needs medication that's she's likely not receiving. But Armstrong fears for the dog's safety for other reasons.
"She's such a sweet dog and I've been rescuing for a long time," says Armstrong. "She's a pit bull and I know there's a lot of pit bull rings and fighting. And it just scares me."
"We're trying to find good homes and help these rescue dogs," adds Hughes. "They don't have any place to go and we're just trying to help them. And we really want Brindle back home. We just want to know she's safe."
Police are looking for a white female around 18 or 19 years old. She is described as having dirty blonde hair, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds. They say she was wearing a brown halter-type top when she stole the dog and drove away in a gold four-door Honda or Toyota.
Police said a second young woman was with her at the time she stole the dog.
