Thieves Go After High-Priced Hair Extensions

HOUSTON - Thieves have broken into another shop to steal high-priced hair.

Je Young Park opened her store in southwest Houston Tuesday and discovered it had been ransacked.

Houston police said burglars broke into the store by knocking a hole in the ceiling during the night.

"They came in through the roof and come down to the store and took high-priced hair," Park said.

The hair extensions Park sells go for more than $100 a piece.

Stolen hair extensions are often sold on eBay, Craigslist and out of trunks of cars for as little as a third of the retail price.

"We lose more than $50,000 because that's very expensive hair," Park said. "They only took the best hair."

The most expensive and most sought extensions are Remy hair from India. It's believed to look the most natural and last the longest without tangling.

Investigators said hair extension theft is a new trend. In some cases, thieves are stealing to order.

There have been burglaries in Houston, Pearland and Missouri City in the past three months.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
