Thieves crash pickup truck into store

HOUSTON – Two men used a stolen pickup truck to smash their way into a northeast Houston store, police said.

Houston police said the incident happened at a convenience store on Lyons Street near Majestic Street about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators said the duo first used a crowbar to break through burglar bars. The men then used the pickup truck to crash through the glass doors.

The manager of the store said he thinks the men were after cash.

"They tried to take out the ATM," manager Karim Maredia said.

Detectives said the men tried to open the ATM, but they were unsuccessful. The men then left without anything, officials said.

The men got away in a black sedan that was parked near the store's gas pumps, investigators said. A getaway driver was waiting for them, police said.

The owner of the store said repairs will cost tens of thousands of dollars.
