Thank a teacher during National Teacher Appreciation Week

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6

HOUSTON – Celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-6 by thanking one of your teachers.

Teachers make a big impact on millions of students across the country. Their passion goes beyond the classroom. Take a moment to show how much you appreciate that extra few minutes your teacher spent with you on that assignment. Thank your teacher for helping you understand the math problem that you couldn't quite figure out. Thank them for giving you a pep talk that helped push you through a rough day at school.

  • A picture of yourself with your favorite teacher, past or present
  • A picture of your child with his or her teacher
  • A picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with a simple message saying "Thank You" to a teacher and why you're thanking him or her

Make sure you use #ThankATeacher when sharing on social media.

President Obama sent a message to the White House email list, writing about the importance of having good teachers. He wrote about his fifth-grade teacher, Ms. Hefty.

"Ms. Hefty taught me that I had something to say -- not in spite of my differences, but because of them. She made every single student in that class feel special. And she reinforced that essential value of empathy that my mother and my grandparents had taught me. That is something that I carry with me every day as President," President Obama wrote.
