Woman falls to her death off West Loop overpass after crash

HOUSTON – A woman was killed after a car smashed into her stalled vehicle and sent her tumbling off the 610 West Loop wall Wednesday morning.

Police said the accident happened after the woman's car stalled in the southbound lane of the West Loop southbound at Highway 59.

According to witnesses, the woman was standing outside her gray Hyundai Tucson with the hood up as she looked at her engine.

Police said a vehicle driving southbound had to swerve on the freeway to avoid hitting the Hyundai, as the woman was in the moving lane without hazard lights on.

The person driving a gray Lexus IS 250 behind the swerving car could not react in time and crashed into the woman's Hyundai. Police said the woman's car then smashed into her.

According to police, the impact of the car hitting the woman threw her off the side of the freeway onto the embankment.

The woman, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver who smashed into her vehicle had minor injuries.

Police said driver was not impaired during the time of the crash and that this was a tragic accident. He was questioned and released with no charges filed in the accident.
