HOUSTON – Houston police are looking for two men who attacked and robbed a landscaper in the Heights.
The victim told police he was working at a home near 9th St. and Studewood Tuesday afternoon when two men approached. One of the suspects then punched the victim in the face while the other demanded money.
Police said when the victim told the suspects he didn't have any, the suspects took his cell phone. The victim believes they then tried to get inside his truck.
A woman who owns a nearby business told Local 2 she went outside after hearing what sounded like banging. She believes that sound was the suspects, trying to get inside the truck.
"I got up to go outside and check. Through my front window I saw two men dash across the street and get into the car and drive away," said the business owner, who described the getaway car as a beige, 4-door sedan.
The woman said she then saw the victim walking toward her.
"I could clearly see the gash on his nose and the lump on his head. I brought him inside to help him call the police and help him," said the woman.
After police left, the business owner posted details of the attack to her Facebook page as a reminder for her neighbors to remain vigilant.
"You can't be too safe these days. You just have to be aware and step up. If you see something unusual step up and do something about it," she said.
Local 2 reached the victim by phone Wednesday afternoon. He said he feels landscapers are more at risk because there is a perception they are paid in cash. He's urging other landscapers to avoid carrying cash and reminding us all to always be on alert.
