Truck without driver slams into home

HOUSTON – A pickup truck without a driver slammed into a southwest Houston home.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 12300 block of Ashcroft Drive near Hillcroft.

Police said the Ford pickup truck was stolen from the same area two nights ago. Investigators said the people who took the pickup decided to keep the seats and then Tuesday night, they aimed the truck at a house, used bricks to hold down the accelerator and took off.

The truck slammed into the garage and a corner of the home.

"It was a tremendous boom. All I could think about was these planes that crash into people's houses," homeowner Charlotte Norman said. "It was loud, and that's when I hit the floor."

Norman told authorities she thought someone was breaking in. As Norman was on the phone with police, she ran into her back yard and had no idea that the smoke was coming from the front of her house.

"I was in the back and all of a sudden, here comes the fire department through my garage door," Norman said.

Norman was treated by emergency crews because she was so distraught.

The crook got away with the seats of the truck, police said.

Detectives said the truck had been stolen out of someone's driveway in the neighborhood.

"I don't think I was targeted at all," Norman said. "I just think that they decided to get rid of the truck."

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
