Truck catches fire while being towed after fatal wreck

LEAGUE CITY - A pickup truck that was involved in an early morning deadly accident ended up catching fire as it was being towed away.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. Monday off Highway 3 and West Wilkins in League City.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup ran into the back of an SUV was hauling a mattress on top. The woman driving the SUV died at the scene.  

The pickup caught fire around 5 a.m. as it was being towed away from the accident. The tow truck driver managed to set the pickup down and drive away, but the tow truck suffered minor damage from the flames.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities said he would also be tested for alcohol.
