Thieves steal restaurant patrons' credit card information

Investigators not releasing restaurant name because of ongoing investigation

SEALY, Texas - At least 23 patrons of an unnamed restaurant in Sealy have had their credit card information stolen, an investigator said.

"They all ate at the same restaurant. I have victims from Pennsylvania to north Texas," Austin County fraud investigator Sgt. Kyle Fredericksen said.

Fredericksen said he would not disclose the name of the restaurant because the investigation is ongoing.

The customers' credit card information appears to have been stolen with a skimming device, a small card reader which stores credit card information which can be used to print new cards later, Fredericksen said.

Fredericksen said he wanted to identify three suspects, one woman and two men, seen on surveillance video using the newly-minted cards at stores, including Walmart, Walgreens and Randalls, in the I-10 and Fry Road area.

"They bought a lot of gift cards," Fredericksen said.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call Austin County Crime Stoppers at 979-865-2949.

"I would like to get my hands on these people so they can tell me where they're buying this information from," Fredericksen said.
