HOUSTON - For the first time we're seeing what life is like for a Needville teen recovering after a shark attack.

Garrett Sebesta was attacked by a shark while swimming with his church group at Surfside Beach on June 17.

He suffered injuries to both his arm and leg. He was immediately transported by LifeFlight to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Sebesta underwent a series of surgeries and spent six days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. On July 2, he was transferred to HealthBridge Children's Hospital, a pediatric skilled nursing facility.

Sebesta's family released a photo to KPRC Local 2 showing him being transported in an ambulance.

"Our favorite guy off to another round of doctors' visits," the family wrote with the photos. " He really enjoyed the care he received from these two... They interacted fabulously with him, the doctors, and really just made his outing an enjoyable one. (He even managed to squeeze a Starbucks out of them!) Everyday he's reminded how blessed he is in different ways."

They released an additional photo of him in recovery.

"Garrett is resting well and pain management has finally been obtained," the family said. "He's looking forward to a good night's rest and ready to tackle the week ahead. For those keeping up with the calendar, Wednesday will mark one month since his journey began. We simply cannot say thank you enough to those who have kept up with him, stood beside him, and most importantly, kept him in your prayers. You are appreciated."

Family and friends have organized a fundraiser to help pay for Sebesta's medical expenses.

A Livestock Progress Show is planned for Aug. 17 at the Needville Harvest Park at 3001 Violet Street.
